Forgot to take my tripod

So this is what happens when you forget to take your tripod with you. Camera on pebbles.



But that's OK... you can always crop in for a detail.



I love the way the water looks like mist. Must remember to take more long exposures by the sea!

Open House exhibition

I am exhibiting 17 mounted and framed prints in an Open House exhibition at the moment. Here is the poster for the exhibit, and here is the Art Trail map for Newhaven.

Visiting cousins

Miles's cousins came over for a visit this weekend.

But before that, we went for a walk in the woods behind Newhaven cemetery with Z.









Perhaps the weirdest plant I have seen for ages.



I was fascinated by it and took a whole lot of photos of it.



Early evening we met up at Stanmer Park for a little bluebell walk in the woods.






Of course Z had to enter the frame again...

Afternoon at the beach

Just got back from a lovely hour and a half on the beach.



As we arrived at Tide Mills, rain clouds were just arriving from inland and heading towards the sea, so we waited in the car for about 15 minutes for them to pass before we walked to the beach.



At the beach we met Max! Zebedee hadn't seen Max for months and months...



...but they picked up right where they left. Best friends. :-)



Remember last time I pictured these two together? Z has grown a bit since then.

In the evening we had dinner at E-kagen (the best Japanese restaurant in Brighton). I'm going to take photos for their new menu possibly next week.



...and after that we had a drink or two at Northern Lights, a Finnish/Scandinavian bar in Brighton.















I will be taking proper pictures there some time next week.

Long time no sea

I haven't taken any photos at Newhaven beach for weeks, if not months. This has to change, obviously. Today I went to have a quick look at the sea, but only after the sun had already set. I will go back soon!

More wind

It's not as windy as yesterday, but there were some spray of water by the lighthouse still.

It's windy

Gale-force winds, apparently. Should be calming down by the afternoon. I went to see the view from Castle Hill this morning while it was still windy and high tide.

Canon 50mm

I've hardly used my Canon 50mm lens. Today I took it (and only it) with me to the beach. I found out that composing with a prime lens is a challenge. OK, it hardly should have come as a surprise. I knew it, but today I really felt it in practise for the first time (while cursing that I didn't have any other lens with me).









Something Zebedee found and played with...


(other things he found and played with or ATE today: a dead dogfish, a shoe, a piece of car tyre, a dead bird, and a myriad of other things I missed, no doubt)



I wished that I had the wide angle with me so that I could have captured all the beautiful sky.... with the 50mm I could only get some unremarkable small parts of it.






Well, it was lovely to be by the sea nevertheless. I need a lot more practise with this lens.
