Gothic Lolita

Have you ever heard of Gothic Lolitas? Neither had I. But today I saw quite a few of them in Brighton's first ever Anime Festival.

Intrigued?

Let's unleash them.

It was actually a Gothic Lolita fashion show that the local Japanese restaurant Moshi Moshi had put on, along with the whole anime festival thing. (To me, these girls look more like "Sweet Lolita" rather than "Gothic Lolita", though.)

After everyone had done their twirls, they all came up to pose for the cameras again.

The MC of the festival.

People in the audience.

Speed Manga drawing competition.

More interesting faces in the audience.

So there! Another "hole in general knowledge filled", as the Finns would say.

Dismemberment of Jeanne d'Arc, etc.

After a lovely walk in Stanmer Park....

I went to see Dismemberment of Jeanne d Arc, a sculpture/installation by Anish Kapoor in Brighton's Old Municipal Market.

Those above were her legs, I assume, and this is the belly.

...and breasts?

I was as interested in the building itself as much as I was interested in the sculpture in it.

Fascinating space.

In the afternoon, walk at Devil's Dyke.

C-curve by Anish Kapoor

As part of the Brighton Festival, there is an interesting Anish Kapoor sculpture installed on top of one of the South Downs hills, near the Chattri just north of the city of Brighton and Hove. I took Zebedee with me to see it as I thought it'd be a good walk for him at the same time (it's about 25 min. walk from the road to the sculpture). Little did I know... after the first 5 minutes I saw that there were cows in the fields on the way. Two minutes later I saw that there were sheep and lambs on the fields all the way to the sculpture. Ugh! I have a badly bruised arm now from trying to control an extra-super eager springer spaniel on his road of temptations... sheep! lambs! everywhere! whoo-hoo!

Anyway, here are a few shots:

There it is, on top of the hill.

(And this is the Chattri - I've photographed it before.)

C-Curve closer up.

Fire, Smoke And Mirrors

Went to Queen's Park to see an installation of a kind, as part of the Brighton Festival.

Gotta love fire.

See the face in this flame?

General view of the site.

Then we walked past a scary cellist.

A performance.

A gardener... (?)

The best, or most interesting subject to shoot, anyway, was this fire guy in the audience. I think he was just a guy... with a few other guys, just having fun?

Disembodiment?
