Hounds of Love

For one of my birthday celebrations this week, we went to see a Kate Bush tribute band The Hounds of Love tonight in Brighton. Before the gig I asked the band whether I could shoot it for them, and as they said yes, I got myself a Photographer Pass from the venue, and so it turned into a birthday present of working as a gig photographer. Excellent stuff.

Kate Bush is such a unique artist - a genius in my world - that I didn't expect much from a tribute band to be honest, but Josie Mills surprised me with her fabulous, beautiful voice and excellently sung Kate Bush songs. If you missed it above, here is another link to the band's MySpace page.

Colour Out of Space Day 3

Before going to the Colour Out of Space festival today we went to see Middle Street Synagogue. A very fine piece of architecture. I think we'll go again next time the synagogue is open to the public and take some more photos of this beautiful building.









And then to the festival. Here is Koichi Makigami. His performance was probably what was advertised as "Kabuki free-vocalist and more". Very funny piece. Here is an example of his stuff.

Colour Out of Space Day 2

Saw/heard a few very good performances today in Colour Out of Space. I didn't have my SLR with me so I only took some snaps with my pocket camera.

Three days of unstructured, cross platform sound experimentation featuring concrete poetry, re-wired electronics, avant noise, out-jazz, home-built instrumentation, Kabuki free-vocalists and more. Together with some of the most exciting current improvisers around we’re pleased to welcome visionary artists who first emerged from such cultural ferments as New York’s ‘No Wave’ art/music crossover, Japan’s radical ‘70s psychedelic underground and Germany's late '60s experimental vanguard. Björk in Hammersmith Apollo

Went to see Björk in Hammersmith Apollo today. It was good to see Hammersmith Bridge, too! I think it's at least five years since I saw it last time.



I was pleasantly surprised by Björk's gig - it was very good! Although I didn't recognise half the songs, her show(wo)manship made it an enjoyable gig from start to finish. (Only tiny images from the gig, taken from far away from the stage with my tiny pocket camera.)
